Man Is Dead
Using motifs of the human condition referenced from
the Vigeland installation, Agwa’s playful use of colour
and shape creates ten uniform paintings.
Abandoning the boundaries of the boards, the motifs create
an overflowing, continuous artwork. By removing a defined beginning and end, the figures lose their sense of individuality.
Layered with information, the viewer is engaged to seek out
new forms and figures. The abstraction of the motifs lends itself
to an almost textile-like aesthetic, which enhances, without oversaturating or dominating.
The artworks are completed with flat, opaque acrylic, complemented with spray paint and washed wood
grain in a classic candy graffiti palette.

‘I want to relinquish our 20th-century individualist ideals; desiring an acknowledgment of nature’s connected altruism and the supernatural consequences of its symbiosis.
When God died our ego put ourselves at the center of the universe. Humanism has divided us into conflicting, virtuous sets with bloodied consequences.
'Man is Dead’ encourages an ego death and a reinstatement
of a natural, egalitarian community championing the global band.
Through this reinstatement there is hope to attain our most valuable asset: each other.
After all we are all just passengers on the ship called Earth.
Let’s chill out and enjoy the ride together, after all none
of us know what the fuck is going on.’
